THE NEW NORMAL!
The COVID-19 has impacted our lives in many ways we couldn't ever have imagined, the new normal seems to be its by-product and we have to incorporate it in our day to day routine.
Dental professionals are subjected to huge risks in this pandemic in terms of the patient treatment.
This is an immense challenge which will lead to many changes in the way we treat patients. It's not always easy to adapt to the changes but, this change in particular involves fear. Dentistry is generally classified in the very high-risk category of aerosol production through many aerosol generating procedures. Therefore, there's a huge responsibility on medical professionals to protect the health and safety of the patients, staff and themselves. Well, if we take into consideration, there are innumerable factors, viz.,
- Concern regarding productivity and profitability due to the new protective guidelines (equipment expenses are way too high I tell ya!😜).
- More apprehensive patients due to the fear of the pandemic (don't worry, it's but obvious for the patients to be frightened).
- With things escalating so quick, "patience" is the key (please be calm, we've got your back!👍).
- Routine with IPAC (Infection prevention and control) protocol (We all need to be safe, don't we?!).
- Understanding the risks associated with COVID-19, one should re-think about the elective procedures and should possibly postpone it.
- Screening, social distancing and Dentistry: Checklist (kripya 2 gaj ki doori yahan bhi banaye rakhein!😇)
- The Dental industry which includes product manufacturers and suppliers have their perspective on this change, they are brimming with new ideas and new approaches to build upon in order to facilitate the ease of dental procedures for both the dentists as well as the patients. This will lead back to focusing on a return to the more widespread provision of dentistry.
- One should avoid routine teeth cleaning procedures. (let regular brushing, flossing and mouthwash come to your rescue!)
- Teeth whitening plans should be postponed as this can be done later.
- Consider delaying alignment of your crooked teeth.
- Carefully use and preserve your already existing dentures if they are satisfactorily functioning.
- Stay away from the habits that may cause damage to your teeth. (ex. tobacco chewing, smoking, opening bottle caps with teeth, cracking walnuts.)
- Visit your dentist only during emergency after taking prior appointment, and follow all precautionary measures. (wear masks and gloves even if you are the patient.)
- Avoid visiting your dentist if you are suffering from symptoms of COVID-19. (fever, common cold, headache.)
